Dale User Proves CTF's Value in Contractor Magazine
A 12m Eco-Drill user, Robert Barnes, spoke to Farm Contractor magazine about his experiences of CTF.
As interest in Controlled Traffic Farming CTF continues to grow, Farm Contractor & Large Scale Grower magazine ran an interesting article about 12m Dale Eco-Drill user Robert Barnes in its December 2011 issue.
The article, written by John Swire, quotes Tim Chamen of CTF Europe, who explains, 'Controlled traffic simply involves confining all field vehicles to the least possible area of permanent traffic lanes.'
Mr Barnes explains his reasoning behind moving to CTF and direct drilling, 'After much thinking about the damage we were doing to the soil I came to the conclusion that the soil tilth was always in the best condition at harvest when it was extremely friable. Consequently I realised that every attempt should be made to keep the soil in such good condition.' He goes on to explain the results, 'Driect drilling next year's crop into stubble and trash rather than a neatly ploughed and cultivated field may not be as aesthetically pleasing but it has had no effect on yields and we are using considerably less fuel, spending less money on big heavy machinery and producing less greenhouse gases.'
